Best Buddies is a club that pairs up special needs students with students in general education classes to be in friendships for the year. We attend two meetings a month, have lunch together once a week and call our Buddies once a week. Other ways we make weekly contact are by email or a personal note. We have field trips together, go to school parties and sometimes meet on the weekend. We fund raise to send officers to the Leadership Conference at Indiana University in Indianapolis. This club has won numerous awards for excellence and you can see why by our activities.

This year we participated in “Take Your Buddy to Lunch” day at the Dolphin Mall, we saw the movie “Happy Feet” and we went to the Fair together. We had a party for Christmas and at the end of the year. We met one Saturday at Bird Bowl and had a great time. We had a great time at Best Buddies Day at Tropical Park and at the Best Buddies Ball, where we got together with other high schools.

Most of all, we have a good time making friends with other high school students who might not otherwise have a friend. We feel proud knowing that we can make such a big difference in another person’s life. Sometimes, we actually become great friends! If you can make a commitment like this to another person, we would love to have you in the club next year. It’s something neither of you will ever forget!
