Our Mission
The mission of the Southwest Miami High School Student Services Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In collaboration with teachers, parents, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure that all students have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

How To Make An Appointment
Student Appointments
Ms. Esther Garrandes, Student Services secretary, will be taking appointments during both lunches as follows:
For students in the Main building:
When: Monday and Wednesday
Time: The first 10 minutes of your lunch
Place: Main Lobby
For students in the New Building:
When: Tuesday and Thursday
Time: The first 10 minutes of your lunch
Place: New Cafeteria

Is two years of a Foreign Language a graduation requirement?
No. However, two years of a Foreign Language is required for the Bright Futures scholarship and admission to a 4-year university.
When should a student take their ACT/SAT?
Spring of their junior year.How many community service hours do I need to graduate?
Twenty (20) hours is the minimum required hours from a non-profit organization, i.e. hospital, school, etc.
